SHAKESPEAREAN MONOLOGUES

Exploring the text through monologue work, the actor will learn to score the text, opening up a deeper understanding of the emotional life of the character and their relationships. Recognizing the rhythm of the meter will lead the actor to make stronger choices and connections - playing the play with a fuller comprehension of the text. Laura Winstin leads actors through a four-week intensive to get their Shakespeare monologues audition and performance ready. To get the most out of the class, actors should have a monologue selected prior to the first class (we can offer assistance with this).

Actors are welcome to work on a second contemporary monologue as well.

BREATHING IN THE PHYSICAL CHARACTER

The process of deepening character study continues with discovering the physical life of each character. Connecting the voice and complete engagement of the body to communicate not only the text but the sub-text, relationships and environment will be explored through a series of exercises and different acting techniques- Learning how to "play" the play.
Further exploration of discovering the "voice" of the character will also be incorporated into each class in conjunction with movement. The actors will sharpen their body awareness and sensitivity to critical elements that impact the life of each character. Scene work and monologues (Shakespearean texts) will be explored by the actors as they incorporate the work.
