VOICE/SPEECH PRODUCTION CLASSES

BREATHING IN THE PHYSICAL CHARACTER

The process of deepening character study continues with discovering the physical life of each character. Connecting the voice and complete engagement of the body to communicate not only the text but the sub-text, relationships and environment will be explored through a series of exercises and different acting techniques- Learning how to "play" the play.
Further exploration of discovering the "voice" of the character will also be incorporated into each class in conjunction with movement. The actors will sharpen their body awareness and sensitivity to critical elements that impact the life of each character. Scene work and monologues (Shakespearean texts) will be explored by the actors as they incorporate the work.

VOICE FOR THE ACTOR

Learn how to identify the physical habits that constrict your breathing, your throat, and your articulators. Learn, too, how your voice and body work together and, how to take care of your voice and avoid strain. Through a combination of exercises and explorations you will free your natural voice and enjoy better breath support, richer vocal quality, and a wider range of pitch and volume.  Finally you will discover how these expressive vocal powers bring a Shakespearean monologue to life. The foundation work draws on exercises from Chi yi, Feldendrais, Pilates, and the work of foremost American and British voice teachers, including Kristin Linklater and Patsy Rodenburg of the National Theatre.  Please wear loose fitting clothes.
