Each workshop concentrates on a specific dialect or accent and includes fundamentals and putting it into action.
A bad dialect, an inconsistent or flatly wrong dialect can be very distracting to the audience.
At the same time, the American audience must be able to understand the dialect.
STANDARD BRITISH DIALECT
Standard British (Received Pronunciation, or RP) is the starting point for even newer British accents and is still used in hundreds of period productions of plays and period films. Additionally, a growing number of audiobooks in several genres include characters who speak with this accent, so it's definitely one to have in your accent toolbox. Today, most non-English speaking countries teach English with a Standard British accent (not American), so a solid foundation in Standard British will equip you with skills for performing dialects from many cultures and nationalities across the globe. Come join us for this interactive dialect class that is a 'can't miss' event!

Russian and Slavic Accents
There are certain accents that appear in more and more films..... Arabic is one, but one needs to truly be that ethnicity to be doing it. However, there IS a set of accents that appear often in film (and sometimes stage) that is more and more popular - it's the family of Slavic accents. Diane specializes in Russian accents, but there are many other accents in that family as well - Polish, Czech, Hungarian, etc. It's critical that an actor know the basic signature sounds of these accents. Make no mistake, they are all a bit different, but this class will help you get it right! Even Kenneth Branaugh has gotten this wrong - so don't feel bad! We are going to focus on Russian, then learn differences that make the others unique.
ACCENTS YOU CAN USE: French, German, Italian
Actors are regularly called upon to perform accents in roles and it’s a tricky to get them to sound intelligible while also sounding authentic. Accents You Can Use: French, German and Italian focuses on the key sounds of the three accents that are most often requested on stage and film. You’ll leave class sounding magnifique! Wunderbar! Fantastico!
Standard British and the London Accent
This class covers two different British dialects essentials for actors interested in stage and film productions - Standard British and the London Accent.
Standard British (Received Pronunciation, or RP) is the starting point for even newer British accents and is still used in hundreds of period productions of plays and period films.
London Accent is how the Brits talk NOW in London and anyone doing a film or a newer play will use the London Accent. There is a BIG difference - let's see it's like Ricky Gervais vs. Downtown Abbey.
Today, most non-English speaking countries teach English with a Standard British accent (not American), so a solid foundation in Standard British will equip you with skills for performing dialects from many cultures and nationalities across the globe.
