About the Weekend Workouts
A hands-on training series designed to help young actors build confidence, strengthen audition and performance skills, while gaining practical experience across multiple areas of the entertainment industry!
Our Youth Weekend Workouts are our flexible á la carte option for students who want to focus on a specific area of interest or who can’t commit to the weekly Professional Training Program. Each Workout focuses on a specific skill or technique and gives actors the opportunity to learn it, practice it, and put it into action! Throughout the year, we’ll work on improv, scene study, green screen, TV sitcoms, monologues, commercials, hosting, voice-over, and film audition technique.
- If you are not actively working on a film or theatre project, you should be in class!
- If you are signed with an agent, you should be in class! (In fact, many actually require it!)
- If you can't commit to the Youth Professional Training Program, these a la carte workshops are just the thing.
- New to Verve? Great; we'll get you up to speed and you'll get the basics under your belt in no time.
- Returning students are always welcome; we select new scripts each workout!
Each workshop includes handouts, expert instruction, practical experience, and a recording of the audition or exercise when recording is part of the workshop. Workshops are available a la carte and registration opens 90-days prior to the workshop.
SATURDAYS
9 am - 10:30 am, Grades 4-8
10:30 am - 12 pm, Grades 7-12
7-8 graders may choose the session that best fits their schedule and preference.
Each workshop is $75 * and requires pre-registration.
+$30 one-time studio registration fee.

Improv Foundations: Solo Improv Scenes
SATURDAY, SEPT 19, 2026
Build confidence, quick thinking, and the ability to make strong choices without a script. Students will explore the fundamentals of improvisation and practice creating solo scenes using imagination, character, and point of view.

Acting Foundations: Role Preparation & Inner Monologue
SATURDAY, OCT 17, 2026
Learn how to prepare a role and tell a story on camera when there is no spoken dialogue. Students will explore MOS (Mit Out Sound or scenes without sound) scenes, using their inner monologue and purposeful movement to communicate what the character is thinking and feeling. Through this on-camera exercise, students will also learn the basics of breaking down an audition scene and making compelling choices.

Fun with Green Screen: Scale & Imagination

Green screen work requires actors to make the imaginary feel real. Students learn how scale, focus, physicality, and imagination affect an on-camera performance when their environment does not actually exist.

Sitcom TV: The Single-Camera Co-Star
SATURDAY, NOV 14, 2026
Students will explore the differences between single-camera and multi-camera TV shows. Then they’ll work through a prepared read audition and apply TV audition techniques to a co-star role. We’ll send the sides 24-48 hours in advance!

Contemporary Comedy Monologues
SATURDAY, DEC 5, 2026
In this class, actors will learn how to breakdown a contemporary comedic monologue in a cold read audition setting. Students will mark their scripts, identify our playable actions, and practice applying those choices when you only have a short time to prepare.

Commercial Acting: One-Liners

Discover how one simple line can become three completely different performances! Students will explore commercial character types, flexibility, and the art of “Yes, And-ing” to create authentic, bookable choices on-camera.

Voice Over Animation: Vocal Variety

Bring animated characters to life! Students will explore how we can create variation and one line can show casting three completely different performances while also developing microphone technique and learning how to use the voice as our primary storytelling tool.
